Remote Configuration

What is Remote Configuration ?

Remote configuration is a feature of Super TCP Suite 7.1 which allows configuration of an installation of the Super TCP product on a remote machine using a web browser.

Who is remote configuration meant for ?

Remote configuration is of particular importance to system administrators. They can configure the installations of Super TCP Suite for any machine in their organization without leaving their desk.

What are the components of remote configuration ?

Remote configuration has two components, a client component and a server component. The client side component is installed on the administrator's machine and the server side component is installed on each of the machines on which Super TCP Suite is installed and which the administrator wishes to remotely configure.

What are the capabilities of remote configuration ?

  1. Remote configuration allows configuration of the Suite installation on the remote machine. It offers the same configuration capabilities as the local configuration programs Suite Configuration and X Configuration.

  2. Remote configuration displays generally useful machine related information (e.g.,OS version, disk space and memory capacity).

  3. Remote configuration supports technical support related tasks such as patch installations and obtaining comprehensive reports of configuration from remote machines.

How does one choose a machine to configure remotely ?

Remote configuration offers three ways for an administrator to choose a machine to configure remotely :

  1. The client component of Remote Configuration browses the local network for machines which have the server component of remote configuration installed on them and displays the list of names. The administrator can choose one of these machines.

  2. The administrator can choose to connect to a machine by directly specifying the machine name or IP address.

  3. The administrator can choose the machine from a list in a local file. This file is a simple text file which may be initially generated by saving the list obtained by network browsing. Choosing this method can save the overhead of network browsing in cases where a large number of machines have the server component of remote configuration installed on them.
